Redshirt sophomore Billy Tom Sargent leads the field individually, and the Western Kentucky men’s golf team is in second as a group after a strong first day on its home course in the Kenny Perry Invitational.
Sargent, a Georgetown native, fired a two-round total of 5-under 139 to claim a one-stroke lead through Monday’s first two rounds at The Club at Olde Stone.
Sargent wasn’t alone, as five WKU players finished the first day of play in the top 15 individually, including a freshman competing as an individual. The team registered five scores of 72 or better across the two rounds and no score worse than 75.
