The Hilltoppers choked away a nine-point lead and lost to Louisiana Tech 23-22 Saturday night at Houchens-Smith Stadium in its Conference USA opener.
Louisiana Tech (2-1) rallied to score 10 points in the last 6:08 ending with Jonathan Barnes’ 21-yard game-winning field goal.
WKU (1-2) appeared to finally get the edge it needed when freshman Jakairi Moses scored on a 19-yard run to put the Hilltoppers up 22-13 with 13 seconds left in the third quarter.
What had been a productive day for the offense through three quarters suddenly turned flat with all four drives in the final 15 minutes resulting in punts.
