Sanford Sr.’s running backs are four practices into fall camp. With 3½ weeks until the Hilltoppers’ Aug. 31 season opener at Wisconsin, carries are up for grabs.
The Toppers’ 2017 rushing numbers were downright abysmal. WKU’s 60.8 rushing yards per game, 791 net rushing yards and two yards per carry all ranked No. 130 of 130 FBS programs.
Those numbers were certainly weighed down by sack yardage which, in college football, counts against a team’s rushing total. The Hilltoppers allowed 3.69 sacks per game, fourth-worst in the nation.
The redshirt senior Ferby is the most familiar name among the Hilltoppers’ running backs.
