A solo home run by Dillon Nelson in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday broke a scoreless tie to give Western Kentucky its first doubleheader sweep since April 2015.
The Hilltoppers (4-2) defeated Northern Illinois (2-3) by a score of 1-0 in the second game after defeating the Huskies 9-5 in the first at Nick Denes Field on Friday afternoon. Righty reliever Ben Morrison closed out both wins, pushing his save total to three in the early season.
Colin Butkiewicz, Chase Larsen and Jacob Rhinesmith drove in two runs each during the first game of the doubleheader.
