Lauren Matthews’ Western Kentucky career got off to a frustrating start.
The freshman middle hitter played in only three of the Lady Toppers’ first 13 matches as she dealt with a right elbow injury. Coach Travis Hudson put Matthews back on the floor Tuesday night and she helped WKU pick up a win.
Matthews made seven kills on 14 attacks, hitting at a .429 percentage, and the Lady Tops beat Cincinnati 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18) at E.A. Diddle Arena.
“A few weeks ago, I was like, ‘Am I going to be able to play?’” Matthews said.
