SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - Freshman Blake Smith fired the lowest round of the year for WKU men's golf in the opening round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Sunday, pacing the Hilltoppers into a tie for second place on the team leaderboard through 18 holes.
Smith, hailing from Knoxville, Tenn., opened the tournament with a five-under 67, the lowest of his career and lowest of the 2015-16 year for the Hilltoppers. The freshman sits atop the individual leaderboard alongside Murray State's Preston French after Sunday's action.
As a team, WKU fired an even-par 288 on Sunday, tied with Oakland for the second-lowest score in the field of 12 teams.
