AKRON, Ohio — Sophomore Blake Smith notched his third top-20 finish of the season Tuesday, while the WKU men’s golf team placed 12th at Akron’s Firestone Invitational.
After a strong first two rounds Monday, including a 6-under 66 to start, Smith tied for 20th individually with a three-round total of 216 (66-75-75) at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club-North Course.
Smith has cracked the top 20 three times in four tries this season. He had five top-20 finishes all of last season.
His steady play paved the way for the Hilltoppers, who finished with an 885 (296-295-294) team total.
