Unlike Friday, where it took three overtime periods and a buzzer-beating 3-pointer for the Western Kentucky women’s basketball team to hand Charlotte its first loss in Conference USA play, Saturday’s rematch was decided in regulation.
But the second game was just as close.
Raneem Elgedawy returned from an injury earlier in the game and connected on a go-ahead 3-pointer with under 30 seconds remaining, and the Lady Toppers held on for a 65-64 victory to sweep the 49ers at E.A. Diddle Arena.
“It means we’re getting better. We’re still growing,” WKU coach Greg Collins said. “Charlotte, I think they’re probably the second- or third-best team in this conference.
