Lady Toppers see positives after early C-USA Tournament exit

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Michelle Clark-Heard offered some reflection amid the disappointment Thursday night.

Her Lady Toppers, the No. 3 seed in the Conference USA Tournament, were dealt a 66-63 upset loss by No. 6 seed Marshall in the quarterfinals.

The loss ended WKU’s hopes for a third straight conference tournament title and almost certainly dashed its already slim chances for an NCAA Tournament at-large bid.

But Heard, the Lady Toppers’ fourth-year coach, weighed the feelings of that defeat against her pride in what the team accomplished in the 2015-16 season.

“A loss is always tough, but we’re 24-6 and this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for us,” Heard said.
