Taveion Hollingsworth didn’t defend his way to the title of 2017 Kentucky Mr. Basketball. The Paul Laurence Dunbar High School guard instead earned that distinction with his 28.3 points per game.
Hollingsworth showed that newfound focus Wednesday during a 92-51 exhibition win at E.A. Diddle Arena against NAIA school Campbellsville. The guard grabbed seven of WKU’s 15 steals, supplementing his game-high 20 points with intensity on the defensive end.
The Toppers held the Tigers to a 19-of-62 (30.6 percent) effort from the floor, including an 8-of-31 (25.8 percent) mark from 3-point territory.
The strong defensive effort Wednesday followed a 78-64 win Sunday in a charity exhibition at Samford, during which WKU held the Bulldogs to a 37.
