Western Kentucky's baseball team split a doubleheader against Conference USA foe UAB on Saturday afternoon, winning the opener 9-6 before falling 8-4 in the nightcap at Nick Denes Field.
Top performances for WKU included a three extra-base hit effort from Hunter Wood in Game 1 and a pair of solo home runs by Thomas Peter, with one in each contest.
In Game 1, WKU's Ryan Thurston struck out seven in 5.1 innings, pushing his season total to 45 in 29 innings of work. Thurston gave way to reliever Kevin Elder in the sixth and ended his day allowing five runs, just two earned.
