The Hilltoppers committed a whopping seven errors and gave up five unearned runs in a 7-1 loss to Kentucky. An announced crowd of 1,093 showed up to watch WKU (24-19) fall to the Wildcats (27-13), who are ranked No. 20 in the national coaches’ poll.
Catcher Kendall Smith committed three of WKU’s seven errors Wednesday, while Rebekah Engelhardt, Kelsey McGuffin, Jordan Thomas and Brittany Vaughn tallied one miscue each.
The Hilltoppers entered play against Kentucky having made 41 errors on the season – the third-fewest among Conference USA’s 12 softball programs.
The score remained 3-0 until the top of the sixth inning, when the Wildcats scored three runs on another multi-error play.
