Western Kentucky’s first win of the Mike Sanford era wasn’t the sort of points-crazy blowout Hilltopper fans grew used to in recent years.
WKU instead had to grind out a 31-17 victory Saturday night against Eastern Kentucky at Houchens-Smith Stadium. It wasn’t a picture-perfect performance from the Toppers, but they accomplished their primary goal: win the game.
"Anytime the first game doesn’t go exactly how you want it to, you can start pointing fingers a lot and start getting down on yourself,” quarterback Mike White said. “I think we did a good job getting together and staying together.
