Hilltopper offense finally catches fire in win against Charlotte

The first five games of 2017 were a struggle for the Hilltopper attack. Their 21.6 points per game through five weeks ranked No. 109 of 130 FBS teams. WKU wasn’t running the ball well at all and wasn’t hitting big plays in the passing game.

That all changed Saturday for the Toppers in a 45-14 win against Charlotte in their annual Homecoming game. WKU (4-2 overall, 2-1 Conference USA) lit up the Houchens-Smith Stadium scoreboard with 38 first-half points, then cruised from there.

The offensive numbers for WKU on Saturday were reminiscent of the Hilltoppers’ 2015 and ’16 Conference USA championship teams.
