SAN ANTONIO — Western Kentucky is in for a unique challenge Saturday afternoon.
The Hilltoppers (12-11 overall, 4-6 Conference USA) visit UTEP at 4 p.m. Saturday, when the Miners will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their barrier-breaking 1966 national championship team in El Paso, Texas.
UTEP, then known as Texas Western, became the first team to start five black players in a NCAA championship game and went on to defeat Kentucky for the title.
"It'll be neat for our kids," WKU coach Ray Harper said. "... But anytime you can talk about or be a part of history, I think it's pretty special and pretty neat.
