LEXINGTON, Ky. – A record-setting year for the WKU Hilltoppers continued on Tuesday night as quarterback Brandon Doughty and head coach Jeff Brohm finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Lexington Herald-Leader’s “Kentucky Sportsman of the Year” voting, the best pair of finishes in WKU history.
It is the first time in the 35-year history of the award that two representatives from WKU finished inside the top five. WKU alumnus Kenny Perry is a two-time award winner, having taken home the prestigious honor in 2003 and 2008.
Triple crown winning race horse American Pharaoh won the award, while Brohm and Doughty finished as the state’s top college football coach and player.
