Western Kentucky overwhelmed Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday night with a big first quarter. Much of that early success was due to the Lady Toppers’ defense.
WKU forced 10 of EKU’s 14 turnovers for the game during the first 10 minutes. That pressure defense turned to offense, as the Lady Toppers outscored the Colonels 24-10 in the first quarter.
WKU went on to beat Eastern Kentucky 76-60 for its third straight win. The Lady Toppers (6-2) got it done defensively, holding the Colonels (4-4) to 34.4 percent shooting for the night.
“We need to keep focusing on being a defensive team,” coach Michelle Clark-Heard said.
