WKU’s Downing pitched four shutout innings in a 4-1 Hilltopper win over Southern Miss in the second game of a doubleheader.
Meanwhile, the WKU catcher Proctor was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored in an 11-6 Topper victory in the first game of the afternoon.
WKU’s only two seniors, both of whom are Bowling Green natives, helped the Hilltoppers improve their record to 26-23 overall and 10-10 in Conference USA.
“Anytime you have senior day, you’re playing for someone else, in a sense,” coach Amy Tudor said after the WKU sweep. “Two special kids that mean a lot to me personally and to this program.
