HOUSTON, Texas -- Playing two games on the day, WKU (18-17, 6-9 C-USA) could not overcome the No. 21 Rice Owls (24-11, 12-4 C-USA) on Saturday as the Hilltoppers battled hard but dropped both fixtures of the doubleheader at Reckling Park in downtown Houston.
The nationally-ranked Owls used five unanswered runs to claim a 5-2 triumph in the first contest of the day before narrowly taking the series finale by a score of 3-2. WKU jumped out to leads thanks to runs in the opening innings of both games but were unable to see the contests out.
