Western Kentucky sophomore Kelsey Aikey fired the 12th no-hitter in program history as the Hilltoppers turned in split a pair of games on day one from the Chattanooga Challenge on Thursday in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Tennessee Tech (1-5) handed the WKU (4-2) a 9-5 loss to open play before the Hilltoppers responded with their second extra-inning win of the year in a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart (0-1).
Aikey carried her first collegiate no-hitter through eight innings behind a career-high seven strikeouts to help WKU to a 1-0 extra-inning win over Sacred Heart in Thursday’s second game. Aikey gave up one hit by pitch and a fielder’s choice while WKU committed an error in an exceptional 85-pitch outing.
