Western Kentucky led its opponent at some point during each of its last six games.
The Hilltoppers let all but one of those leads slip. They sit at 1-6 overall and 0-3 in Conference USA after their latest defeat, a chaotic 37-34 home loss Saturday to Old Dominion.
ODU kicker Nick Rice booted the game-winning 26-yard field goal with no time left on the clock. Rice’s kick came on the third of three straight untimed downs – one of which included an 83-yard ODU field-goal return – to end the game.
But before the game-ending sequence took place, WKU held fourth-quarter leads of 27-19 and 34-27 and watched them both slip away.
