MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Written down on Sean Covich’s grease board, right next to the list of names for his 2016, 2017 and 2018 recruiting classes, is the number 108.
That number represents the days remaining until West Virginia University golf resumes collegiate competition after 33 years in hibernation.
Golf was eliminated as a WVU varsity sport in 1982 when the athletic department was in the midst of severe financial hardships and remained dormant until 2013 when then-athletic director Oliver Luck revived the sport to satisfy the Big 12’s requirement of sponsoring six men’s sports for conference competition.
