West Virginia will play Arizona State in the Cactus Bowl at Chase Field in Phoenix on Jan. 2.
It marks the Mountaineers' 13th bowl appearance in the past 14 seasons.
West Virginia finished a streaky 2015 season with a 24-23 loss Saturday at Kansas State. The defeat snapped a four-game winning streak and denied it of its first season with at least eight victories since 2011.
Under coach Dana Holgorsen, who is finishing up his fifth season, the Mountaineers are 1-2 in bowl games, with the lone win coming against Clemson in the 2012 Orange Bowl.
