MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — One of West Virginia’s top quarterback targets for the 2019 class, Brian Maurer, won’t be overlooked much longer. The Rivals three-star prospect surprised some recruiting analysts Monday by making the field of Nike’s Elite 11 showcase.
A 6-foot-4 pro-style prospect from Ocala, Fla., Maurer received his first Power 5 offer from West Virginia more than year ago and visited Morgantown in May. The Mountaineers remain well-positioned against the likes of N.C. State, Boston College and Indiana, though new offers are expected to pour in.
From the months-long series of regional camps, Mauer was perhaps the most underrated of 24 quarterbacks who participated at the Elite 11 camp this weekend in Redondo Beach, Calif.
