MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Throughout the offseason, Karl Joseph constantly was reminded of the expectations being hoisted upon him.
He saw his likeness gracing billboards, magazine covers and media guides. He was shown various preseason All-America teams that included his name. He was bombarded with questions about his past accomplishments and what kind of lofty heights he could reach as a senior.
The hype surrounding this West Virginia safety was real, but whether he would be able to live up to that promise remained to be seen.
In the Mountaineers opener, Joseph provided a captivating peek at what he and his partners in the secondary can accomplish this season, intercepting three passes in the third quarter and recovering a fumble in the first half of West Virginia’s 44-0 victory a week ago against Georgia Southern.
