West Virginia (1-0) held a slim 33-31 advantage at the half. A stingy defensive effort in the third quarter allowed WVU to outscore Barking Abbey 27-10 during that period and take a commanding advantage the Mountaineers would never relinquish.
WVU would finish with five scorers in double figures. Sophomore forward Teana Muldrow led the team with 17 points and three blocks in the win. Freshman Tynice Martin followed with 15 points. Other double-figure scorers included Alexis Brewer (12), Katrina Pardee (12) and Jessica Morton (10). Lanay Montgomery pulled in a game-high eight rebounds, added seven points and had two blocks in limited action.
