CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s basketball team used an all-around effort to hold off Marshall, 66-60, in the annual Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic in front of 3,173 fans at the Charleston Civic Center on Sunday.

The Mountaineers (7-2) led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter before Marshall (6-1) fought back in the final stanza. A free throw by the Thundering Herd’s Leah Scott cut WVU’s lead to 52-49 with seven minutes remaining. A Teana Muldrow layup coupled with a Tynice Martin three-pointer pushed the Mountaineers’ advantage back to eight.
