The Delta Devils led briefly, 3-2, on an Isaac Williams 3, but the Mountaineers had this one in hand by the 15-minute mark of the first half, leading 21-7.
“I thought we came out and played with a lot of energy and played pretty well early and in the second half we decided we were done for the day,” said West Virginia coach Bob Huggins.
At halftime, the margin swelled to 64-28 and for a while it looked like West Virginia might challenge the Coliseum record for points scored, that coming against Alaska-Fairbanks on November 25, 1994 when the Mountaineers put 132 on the Nanocks, but WVU hit a lull at the six-minute mark and remained stuck on 96 points for more than three minutes.
