MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - It’s fitting on a weekend when Hall of Fame coach Don Nehlen was recognized by the American Football Coaches Association as its 2016 recipient of the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award - presented to those “whose services have been outstanding in the advancement of football” - the Mountaineers decided the best way to advance the ball on Saturday night was by playing a little old-school Don Nehlen football.
West Virginia’s first 12 offensive plays of the game netted just 60 yards - 40 of those coming on a Shelton Gibson pass reception down the far sideline - when WVU’s offensive brain trust did a little tweaking.
