NORFOLK, Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team lost the opening game of a doubleheader at Old Dominion on Friday afternoon in Norfolk, Virginia.
In the first game of a three-game series at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex, the Mountaineers (7-6) scored four runs on 10 hits with two errors, while the Monarchs (10-3) scored eight runs on nine hits with no errors. WVU left 10 runners on base, while ODU stranded six.
West Virginia took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, thanks to freshman catcher Chase Illig’s first career home run. Old Dominion answered with three runs in the sixth before the Mountaineers regained the lead with a run in the seventh.
