MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — To the surprise of no one, West Virginia coaches cued up a reel of Tavon Austin highlights when receiver Winston Wright Jr. visited campus.
The comparisons have only increased in the 48 hours since Wright became WVU’s seventh commitment for 2019.
“I get that all the time,” said the receiver who made some wildcat carries last season for Memorial Day School in Savannah, Ga. “At West Virginia, they’re looking to play me in the backfield, slot, punt return and kick return.”
A three-star Rivals prospect with 29 FBS offers including North Carolina, Kansas State, Duke and UCF, Wright is a former teammate of Mountaineers 2018 signee Sam James, a receiver from nearby Richmond Hill, Ga.
