COMMENTARY
STILLWATER, Okla. — The Big 12 has decided against moving to football divisions in 2017, simultaneously striking the right note for competition while exposing itself to potential pitfalls of bad timing.
What’s to like about Friday’s announcement? For pure game-integrity and fairness, there’s nothing better than the league’s best two teams meeting on championship weekend.
What’s the worry? There’s nothing to prevent those same teams from having played seven days earlier.
Had a Big 12 championship game existed during 2015, of course, we would’ve been treated to an instant do-over of Oklahoma’s 58-23 romp at Oklahoma State.
