MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Not long after Josh Lambert’s 47-yard field goal sailed through the uprights as time expired to give West Virginia a 40-37 win a year ago against Maryland, coach Dana Holgorsen was asked what he said beforehand to his sophomore kicker.
“I haven’t talked to Josh Lambert since he got to campus,” Holgorsen said.
Holgorsen was kidding — he had, of course, spoken with his kicker before — but between his dry sense of humor and the speed at which 140-character snippets of information travel, the joke was lost.
Even if his coach didn’t know much about Lambert before that day, he and the state of West Virginia certainly do now.
