LUBBOCK, Texas — Lauren Segalla snapped a scoreless tie in the 47th minute as West Virginia upset No. 22 Texas Tech 2-0 on Friday night in their Big 12 women’s soccer opener.
Stefany Ferrer-vanGinkel added her team-high fourth goal in the 64th minute, connecting on a penalty kick after Hannah Abraham was pulled down inside the box.
The Red Raiders’ (8-2, 0-1 Big 12) had gone 5-0 at home to start the season.
It marked the third straight shutout by the Mountaineers (5-2-3, 1-0), who were the near-consensus preseason pick to win the conference but struggled against some top competition.
