West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen confirmed on Monday morning’s Big 12 Conference coaches teleconference that Mountaineer linebacker Charlie Benton will undergo surgery for a knee injury, and will miss the rest of the 2018 season.
Benton left Saturday’s game early in the second quarter after he got rolled up on his left leg while tackling Volunteer running back Tim Jordan. Benton’s exact diagnosis is unknown at this time, but logic tells us it’s an ACL or MCL tear.
Benton is a redshirt sophomore, and joined West Virginia in the 2018 recruiting class out of Butler Community College.
