Three strokes was all that separated the West Virginia University golf team from an outright bid to the NCAA Division I Golf National Championship tournament, as the Mountaineers finished in sixth place at 10 over par in the NCAA Louisville regional on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers began the final round in 8th place, but charged up the leaderboard after going 5 under on the front nine. Unfortunately, the University of North Florida golf team found similar success and mounted a similar charge to stay ahead of the Mountaineers in fifth place.
Matthew Sharpstene and Logan Perkins had the best individual performances for the Mountaineers, as both finished tied for 22nd at two over par.
