West Virginia Football: Mountaineers’ Late Fourth-Quarter Collapse Hands Pitt 38-34 Win in The Backyard Brawl

West Virginia (1-2) controlled much of the 107th edition of the Backyard Brawl but collapsed late, falling 38-34 to Pittsburgh (3-0) at Acrisure Stadium.

The Mountaineers jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Garrett Greene to CJ Donaldson, but Pittsburgh responded with a touchdown of their own, eventually taking a 17-14 lead. West Virginia tied the game 17-17 at halftime with a field goal after stalling near the Panthers’ red zone. A blocked punt returned for a touchdown gave Pittsburgh a 24-17 lead in the third quarter, but the Mountaineers fought back with a CJ Donaldson rushing touchdown to tie it again at 24-24.
