The West Virginia Mountaineers (10-15, 2-10 Big 12) suffered their third straight 20+ point loss, this time at the hands of the No. 14 Kansas Jayhawks, 78-53, in Lawrence. The loss moves the Mountaineers to 0-6 on the season in true road games.
Bob Huggins inserted freshman Emmitt Matthews Jr. in the starting lineup alongside Derek Culver, Lamont West, Jermaine Haley and Brandon Knapper, marking Matthews’ first career start. Trey Doomes remains the only Mountaineer on scholarship to not make it into the starting lineup this season.
