MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The after-effect of the celebration penalty heard ’round the south is rippling all the way to West Virginia.
Multiple sources close to both the West Virginia and Ole Miss programs have indicated to MetroNews that the Mountaineers intend to hire former Rebels linebackers coach Jeff Koonz for their vacant inside linebackers coach position, barring any unexpected setbacks. Koonz is also the top candidate to head West Virginia’s special teams.
Both spots were previously filled by Blake Seiler, who was hired as Old Dominion’s defensive coordinator.
Koonz was not retained at Ole Miss by new head coach Lane Kiffin.
