West Virginia baseball’s top signee opts for Yankees

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Switch-hitting high school shortstop/outfielder Jordan Scott, the gem of West Virginia’s 2017 baseball recruiting class, signed with the New York Yankees on Thursday, according to multiple media reports.

The 6-foot Scott, a Conyers, Ga., native who spent a postgraduate season at IMG Academy, was a long shot to attend WVU after being drafted in the 14th round (428th overall) last weekend.

This spring, Scott batted .266 in 46 games, led IMG with seven homers and was second with 32 RBIs. His speed and power made Mountaineers coach Randy Mazey salivate, though it did the same for MLB scouts.
