West Virginia attacks through air to win Cactus Bowl

PHOENIX — In a game played at a major league baseball park, West Virginia quarterback Skyler Howard spent Saturday night slinging the ball across the diamond and tossing home run passes.

For Howard, throwing a heavy dose of fastballs was sweet and the changeup in offensive philosophy made the game almost surreal.

“It was the kind you dream about,” Howard said.

In one of the greatest passing performances in West Virginia history, Howard threw for 532 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Mountaineers to a 43-42 victory against Arizona State in the Cactus Bowl at Chase Field.
