MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — As former Marshall All-American offensive lineman Phil Ratliff was laid to rest this weekend in Charlotte, two of his colleagues on the West Virginia staff traveled to pay their respects.

Mountaineers defensive line coach Bruce Tall called this week’s death of the 44-year-old Ratliff “very devastating.” They coached together and were neighbors the past three years, helping UNC Charlotte launch its football program. Ratliff served as Charlotte’s offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.
“He was the perfect fit (at Charlotte), because everything he did was with passion,” Tall said.
