Wendell Smallwood departure leaves shallow RB depth

On Wednesday, Smallwood took to Twitter to announce he was foregoing his senior season at WVU for a chance to become a professional football player.

“After serious consideration and discussion with my family and coaches, I have decided to declare myself for the 2016 NFL Draft,” Smallwood wrote. “All my life I’ve dreamed of competing on Sunday’s and I believe the time is now to pursue that dream.”

Cornerback Daryl Worley was the first Mountaineer junior to declare his intentions to enter the draft. Smallwood, Worley and running back Rushel Shell all filed paperwork to gauge their draft status.
