The career track toward sports information began for Mike Montoro just after he left high school. He came to Dave Eller, the head basketball coach and athletic director at Carroll Christian Academy in Westminster, Maryland, and asked for a chance to be involved with the promotion of his team in any way he could help.
Eller gladly allowed him to take on statistics, game operations and media reporting while moonlighting as the junior varsity basketball coach. A sports information director was born!
"His willingness to work in an unpaid position and his love for that position showed in everything he did," said Eller.
