When fans of the No. 25-ranked West Virginia University gymnastics team look up sophomore Robyn Bernard on the Mountaineers’ roster page at WVUsports.com, none of the aforementioned qualifiers are listed to describe the Silver Spring, Maryland, native. Yet, they are at the tip of coach Jason Butts’ tongue each time he talks about his multi-event contributor.
“I like how calm Robyn is each meet,” he explained earlier this week inside Cary Gym. “Maybe it’s an act, I don’t know, but outwardly she exudes ease – there’s no stress with Robyn. Gymnasts often get flustered when it’s their turn to compete, but Robyn always just calmly steps up, gives me a fist bump, salutes the judges and goes.
