MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three Mountaineers earned victories as the West Virginia University wrestling team suffered a 24-9 setback at the hands of No. 3 NC State at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday.
Bubba Scheffel’s upset win over No. 15 Pete Renda in sudden victory at 184 was one of the highlights. He took a 7-5 decision with a takedown in the overtime period.
“Bubba scrapped. I was proud of him” said WVU coach Sammie Henson of Scheffel, who was injured in the third period. “For him to continue to wrestle, to come back and not only battle but win in dramatic fashion… I think it lit a fire under our team.
