MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Overshadowed by “The Samaje Perine Experience” last year was West Virginia’s struggles to stop receiver Sterling Shepard, who enjoyed a 100-yard game.
“He’s dynamic,” said Mountaineers cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell. “You could put the ball in his hands and he could be your best tailback. He’s a running back that’s playing wide receiver.
“When it’s time to make a play he can make it, and that’s where I put the guys in the top echelon—the Tyler Locketts and the Kevin Whites.”
Recall that West Virginia was missing suspended cornerback Daryl Worley during last season’s 45-33 loss to the Sooners.
