MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In January, peeved by several thousand empty chairs at one of West Virginia’s least-scintillating conference games, Bob Huggins invoked a trademark lecture by noting that great fan bases “don’t just sell out to see Kansas.”
Huggs had a sliver of a point, I suppose, though I wince a little when a coach tells his customers how to spend their discretionary income. At least Huggins should be pleased that Saturday’s game against No. 3 Oklahoma is a sellout, and has been since December.
And in this case, West Virginia’s fan base is entirely justified in coming out to see the opposition.
