TCU and West Virginia arrived in Oklahoma City needing to win the Big 12 tournament to earn an NCAA regional bid.
While the Frogs will continue their quest in Sunday’s championship game, WVU’s season is over.
“Our program, there’s something about being in postseason like that, it becomes a part of you,” TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle said after a 7-3 win eliminated the Mountaineers on Saturday. “You tend to play the best when you’re needed the most.”
Schlossnagle’s team, aiming for its 14th NCAA bid in 15 seasons, will face Baylor for the title.
West Virginia (29-27), dealt a disappointing end to a season that begin with top 25 hype, split four games in OKC with both losses to TCU by a combined score of 15-4.
