MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — As a freshman, Dravon Henry was everything one could want out of a first-year player, a dependable starter at safety who finished with two interceptions and was named a freshman All-American by ESPN.
West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen, however, saw something else entirely.
“There were a lot of times where he was lost a year ago, even in games,” he said. “He was lost.”
Though it may appear that way, the comment wasn’t meant as a slight. All freshmen playing major Division I football are — to varying degrees — lost, forced to adjust rapidly to the kind of speed, physicality and competition that wasn’t found in high school.
